'THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD'
Tillack joins forces with
MAD surfboards and SkullCandy
to create unique works

After being asked to join forces with Marty Allen, MAD surfboards (www.madsurf.com ) , to create a design for an upcoming event in the boys homeland of Australia, Tillack decided not just to create a piece of art, but also a statement that would bring more awareness to our oceans and highlight some of the destructiveness that we are currently seeing.
“The work turned out more powerful than I had hoped!”

The piece ‘There goes the neighborhood' represents the mythical god of surf, ‘Huey' shedding a tear of blood as metropolitan existences encloses and drains into the life of the ocean, without even being aware of the damage that is being created below.

Statement
“The oil spill on the East Coast of the US is a major tragedy and has really brought attention to what can happen on a major level, not only has the oil destroyed marine/coastal life but the chemicals used to clean up have created a major problem as well. We are only starting to see the damage that this has created to our ocean and coastal life, and it will affect everyone no matter how far from the water they live.

There is always the personal level of misguided trash abuse on a daily basis, but I am also sick of seeing the higher levels dumping so called stripped cars, boats and other vehicle bodies' sinking them to the bottom of the ocean under the false label of creating fake reefs – this is nothing but creating an underwater dump with an out of site out of mind mentality. They even go as far as creating news stories out of it to give them a pat on the back as if it was something good they are doing.”

Upon finishing the surfboard piece, SkullCandy, creator and leader of the headphone products in the action sport industry (www.skullcandy.com), approach Pete to create a one off design for the new ROCNATION Aviator headphones that would be auctioned at the upcoming Liquid Nation Ball 2010.

Tillack found this another opportunity for awareness and felt that ‘There goes the neighborhood' would be interesting to mold around the many contours of the headphones and added another element by cutting into the covers to create a third dimension for the piece as the portrait would be able to sit behind the drips.

Thanks to MAD surfboards and Skull Candy
for the opportunity to join forces in creating this piece
